The success of an ERP or CRM implementation doesn’t solely depend on the choice of the system or the processes in place. Indeed, the human element of your organization may affect its success just as much as these two elements combined. As such, change management plays a key role in any implementation project. To ensure optimal change management and a smooth transition, here are 5 key points to consider during the implementation of your new ERP or CRM system:

1. Alignment of the vision

It’s important for everyone to be on the same wavelength regarding the need to implement a new system and on the objectives to reach. The project and management teams should be convinced of its necessity, and final users should be kept informed of upcoming changes and be able to share their concerns and ask their questions.

2. Understanding of the current state

It’s also important to understand how things are currently taking place within your organization. What are the tools currently being used by your employees and how can they be improved? What are the challenges they face? What are the current processes and are they standardized? Once you have answered these questions, you will be in a better position to accompany your users throughout the change.

3. Readiness assessment

Change management occurs at all levels of your organization, and you should make sure it’s ready to face this challenge. Consider all these elements to judge whether your organization is ready to weather this transition: the culture and maturity of your business, its management, decision-making processes, communication channels, change history, and project portfolio.

4. Communication and commitment plan

Identify the different groups involved directly or indirectly in the project and the best channels to reach them. Afterwards, plan regular communications using these various channels to reach all managers and users, whether it’s by email, on the intranet, during meetings, etc. Also, make sure to keep your communications clear, transparent, and regular.

5. Continuous improvement and training plan

The success of your ERP or CRM implementation is not guaranteed once the new system is launched! Indeed, it’s essential to continue investing in user training and the continuous improvement of the system to leverage its full potential. Otherwise, all your efforts will have been in vain if your users don’t use the new system or if data is not kept up to date!

Change management should not be underestimated or neglected during an ERP or CRM implementation project. Businesses that properly prepare for such a transition have much better odds of successfully completing their project and enjoy a much better ROI. Along with the above elements, consider naming someone internally or hire a specialist to take on change management. You will maximize your chances of ensuring the success of your project!
